Spring/Summer 2017 Trends: Delicate Ruffles

Looking back at my baby photos, my mom always dressed me up as if I were a little doll; always in dresses with bows in my hair and everything I wore from sun dresses to winter sweaters had frills and ruffles. For women, the frilly look is not always in fashion but this SS17 runway show we saw designers like Marc Jacobs, Fendi and of course Chloe adding the delicate look of ruffles into their collections. Personally I think garments with ruffles never goes out of style for little girls because they always look so adorable with that little extra detail. The simplest of styles are automatically made so much more elegant and unique with this addition. Whether it’s a small ruffle around the bottom of a simple black dress like Lanvin did this season or Fendi’s Fancy white blouse with a unique placement of ruffles around the button up, the pieces just look so much classier.

Mock Cold Shoulder

This season we are loving the placement of ruffles across the chest look for young girls because it gives the effect of the cold shoulder that is so in fashion but at the same time keeps it modest for our daughters. Armani Juniors orchid color dress is so precious thanks to the fancy trimmings that go from the shoulder across the chest to under the arm hole. The little navy bow detailing on the neck line will match perfectly with Armani’s navy blue sandals that are now on sale so, they are are a complete steal! A similar look from the same collection is Armani’s navy blue top that features the same ruffled style but with a white trim. Since the blouse does not have the same bow detail at the neck we recommend adding Lanvin’s pearl necklace to her outfit to create an effortlessly classy outfit.

Swimwear

Is there anything cuter than a little girl in a bikini, we think not! The only addition that could possibly make the little sun bather any more adorable is styling her in a suit with touches of ruffles. Kenzo offers a couple of options this SS17 season for sporty girls, one being a one-piece and the other a two piece. Both featuring the designer’s classic graphic print in white and red with touches of light pink. The razor back on each make for a carefree day of swimming and running around as the straps stay in place. For girly options we are in love with Stella McCartneys daisy bikini and Fendis ‘Space’ printed bikini. Stella’s light blue suit with yellow flowers has the perfect amount of whimsical ruffles on the top of each leg hole and around the top trim of the bikini top. Fendi’s bikini is great for your edgy little princess as the cute ruffles feature and black and white striped pattern.

After she has picked the perfect swimwear to match her personal style don’t forget to complete the look with a coordinated hat so she can protect her face from the sun. Kenzo has a baseball cap with the matching red and white graphic print that both the suits feature. Feeling super cool and edgy? Match Stella or Fendi’s bikini with Fendi’s white straw hat with a bright yellow ribbon around the brim with the designer’s classic 'Monster Eyes' pattern. Be a glamour girl and match the swimsuit with Chloe’s straw hat in beige or ivory, both featuring a lovely tassel detailing around the brim. She is going to feel cool and confident in all these chic styles that she can mix and match to express herself through that day’s style.
